Answers to some frequently asked questions relating to the migration from AWS to Azure
1. Will there be any downtime during or after the migration?
Due to the complex nature of the migration, it is necessary that we incur some downtime, we have thoroughly run through practice migrations over the last number of months to finetune our timings for the migration. As a result of this we need to take the system offline for two days (1st – 2nd February) as this will allow for the migration and additional post migration testing to ensure everything is 100%. We determined that a weekend maintenance window would have the least impact on the majority our customers.
2. Will my data be affected or lost during the migration?
Data will be transferred over secure connections to the Azure platform. Once the database and files are in place on the new environment, we will run some reports to ensure all data migrated successfully. All data currently available on the Nvolve platform before the migration will be available in the same way on the Azure platform post migration. Daily backups are carried out and retained for 5 weeks and a monthly backup is stored for a year.
3. Are there any changes to how I access the application?
All users will access the platform in the same way as they currently do and will see no difference to their logging on experience.
4. Has performance improved or changed after the migration?
Part of the reasons we have chosen to move to Azure is to allow for performance improvements to be made to the platform in future releases, performance for this migration will remain unchanged.
5. Are there any new security or compliance changes?
As part of our migration strategy, we are leveraging the enhanced security features and compliance capabilities available within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. These improvements help us proactively identify and mitigate potential security risks more effectively.
6. Will pricing or billing be impacted by this migration?
There are no current plans to make any changes to pricing or billing.
7. Do I need to update integrations or API endpoints?
Customers with third-party integrations or API-based workflows will continue to work as they do now with no changes required.
8. Are there any new features or limitations after the migration?
We are bringing you some exciting enhancements to the platform this release. Keep an eye out for our upcoming comms to know more.
9. Is there a contingency plan for Monday, February 3rd, in case of a system failure during the Azure migration that affects mandatory training?
The system will be fully operational on February 3rd. During the majority of the maintenance window on February 2nd, we will conduct thorough testing of the platform to ensure everything is functioning correctly. In the unlikely event that we encounter a critical issue that cannot be resolved promptly, we have a contingency plan in place to revert to our previous AWS system. This rollback process involves reversing any DNS changes and restarting the necessary services, allowing us to restore access to the previous platform as it was on January 31st in under an hour.
10. Who should I contact for support if issues arise?
Support channels, SLAs, and escalation processes remain unchanged. If you need to contact support, you can do so via the platform or:
- By email: support@nvolvegroup.com
- By telephone: +353 7491 16000
+44 203 868 8250
11. Why did you move from AWS to Azure?
Enhanced Performance and Reliability:
Azure’s global network of data centres ensures optimal performance and uptime. If one region experiences issues, the service will seamlessly switch to another, minimising disruptions and ensuring uninterrupted access.
Improved Security:
Azure’s multiple physical data centres and robust security protocols provide industry-leading protection for your data and operations.
Scalability for Growth:
As your needs evolve, Azure’s infrastructure enables us to scale effortlessly, ensuring your experience remains smooth regardless of demand.
Better Integration Opportunities:
The new environment makes it even easier to integrate the Nvolve platform with enterprise tools like Power BI, ERP systems, and other business-critical applications, helping you extend its utility across your organisation.
